The identity of the person who died early Saturday in Vilas county has been released.
The Vilas County Sheriff's Department reports 55-year-old Gary Van De Lygraaf died after a crash on the shoreline of Buckatobon Lake in Conover. The crash was reported about 1:42 a.m.
Investigators report the snowmobile was traveling at a high rate of speed across the lake. The driver couldn't stop in time and struck a tree on the shoreline. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several emergency agencies responded. The crash is being investigated by the Vilas County Sheriff and Coroner's offices.
