Update: One Dead, Deputy On Paid Leave After Shooting

One person is dead and a Lincoln County Sheriff's Department deputy is on paid administrative leave after a shooting incident Monday night west of Merrill.

The Sheriff's Department reports a deputy responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch along county road "FF" in the town of Corning. The unidentified deputy reported that shortly after arriving on the scene, the driver allegedly   began shooting at the deputy who returned fire, killing the driver.

The driver of the car in the ditch was identified as 40 year old Shawn M. Igers of Wausau. Igers body was taken to Madison where an autopsy was scheduled. The deputy has over 6 years in law enforcement. Sheriff Jeff Jaeger says the investigation into the shooting was turned over to the state Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation.

State investigators will report their findings to the Lincoln County District Attorney's office.
