VA Meetings On Cassian National Cemetery Rescheduled For April 25

Veterans Administration

We told you recently of a series of meetings scheduled by the Veterans Administration to talk about the new National Veterans Cemetery to be built in the town of Cassian) west of Rhinelander. The meetings were postponed due to the weather but have been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 25.

Oneida County Veterans Service Officer Tammy Walters says personnel from Fort Snelling are going to oversee the national cemetery She says they're going to give the communities an update to report when things are happening.

The VA announced in 2015 that it purchased six acres for $24,000 for a National Veterans Burial Ground. Walters says while the cemetery is believed to serve mainly Midwest veterans, the burial ground is open to all veterans, regardless of location.

The meetings will be held at the County Government Services Building in Merrill at 10:00 a.m., at the VFW Post in Eagle River at 2:00 p.m., and at the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge on Davenport Street at 6:00 p.m. The Rhinelander Masons will be hosting a Veterans Social with pulled pork dinner beginning at 4:00 p.m. prior to the meeting. All veterans and their families are welcome to come. There is no cost for the meal but donations will be accepted.

The meeting room at the Rhinelander Masonic Lodge is located downstairs and there is no elevator. They will have people there who can assist veterans.
