VC Zoning Approves 60 Unit Campground

commons.wikimedia.org

A conditional use permit was approved for a proposed 60 unit campground in Sayner by the Vilas County zoning committee after a recent public hearing.

The campground, proposed by Russell Davis, would cater to recreation vehicles, not tent campers. As proposed, there would be two driveways on adjacent Highway N, one for entering and the other for exiting, with opinions the speed limit at that location needed to be reduced.

Tom Tameling , an adjacent landowner, felt there were plenty of camping spaces in the numerous state campgrounds in the area as did Mary Marsh-Schilling who also feared the campground would evolve into a mobile home park. The Plum Lake town board provided a letter that encouraged the county to issue the permit. The permit was approved with a number of conditions attached.

The zoning committee also approved a conditional use permit on an application for a bed and breakfast submitted by Steve Gehrke on Everette Road in the town of Washington. Zoning administrator Dawn Schmidt indicated a B&B was allowed in a single family residential zoning district. Gehrke testified the home could accommodate up to eight persons and the host had to reside there and prepare breakfast and he was prepared to do that. Of two adjacent landowners who testified, one supported and one opposed the conditional use permit.

The committee voted 3-1 to issue the permit with a number of conditions.
