Area veterans were invited to a coffee social (Feb 11) with Northland Pines  Administrator Mike Richie along with Vilas County Veterans Service Officer Mike Biszak to share information on programs and services each can offer area veterans. “Veterans can utilize our walking track, our wellness center, and our All American Kids Club,” Richie said. “In addition, a veteran can be awarded a high school diploma if their service interrupted their high school education.”

Biszak pointed out of the 2,500 veterans in Vilas County, about 36% are receiving benefits.

“While the schools job is to educate our youth, my job is to educate veterans on what services and benefits are out there available to them,” Biszak told over a dozen veterans gathered at Eagle River Roasters.

“I believe there may be many widows of veterans that aren't aware of benefits they may be eligible for.”

Biszak thanked the school district for their support at Memorial and Veterans Day observances and Richie offered school facilities for those should there be inclement weather.
