en.wikipedia.org

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain will be one of the host sites in this region for an event later this month noting the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Iron Mountain, VA spokesperson Brad Nelson says Congress authorized a commemoration program back in 2008, with programs beginning in 2012. Nelson says on March 29, a commemoration event will be held at Fornetti Hall at Bay College West on North U.S. 2 in Iron Mountain...

"....for us as a community, for us as a VA, we need to be able to thank these veterans and their families for their service. Something they probably didn't get when they came home, but something, I think, we recognize now as a country in the last number of years. We'll be presenting to the veterans who served in the Vietnam War commemoration pins, National Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration pins who served during that time. That is another important part we will be doing...”

Nelson says Vietnam era veterans, their families and the general public is welcome to attend. The event will include presentation of Vietnam War Commemoration Pins to veterans and information displays. The doors will open at 11 a.m. There will also be an even the same day in Gladstone, Michigan.

Rhinelander is the site of a VA clinic.

More information is available on the website vietnamwar50th.com Brad Nelson says he's available to give more information if you call the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
