Vilas Board To Vote On Transit Commission Tuesday

en.wikipedia.org

The Vilas county board Tuesday will vote whether to join a transit commission for Oneida, Vilas and Forest counties.

Oneida County Department on Aging Director Dianne Jacobson says the idea that began years ago  to provide more public transportation options. She says there is movement toward that goal...

".....Oneida county board and Forest county board have given their approval to move forward as a partner on that transit commission. We are looking forward to Vilas county's board meeting on September 23. We are hopeful that we will get approval that they will be wanting to join as a partner....."

While the discussion began as discussion between Department on Aging officials, she says if there eventually is some sort of public transportation option, it would be open to everyone in the three-county area...

".....folks need to remember when we say 'open to the general public', it doesn't mean metro buses that have a route that we're familar with. This would be transportation more suited to a rural environment. It would be a combination of different options...."

She says that is far better than the current situation where no public transportation is available.
The Vilas County Board meets Tuesday morning at nine a.m. at the Vilas county courthouse.
