Vilas Co. Hosting Water Well Monitoring Sessions Saturday

Questions about private water wells and well monitoring has prompted the Vilas County Health Department to host a well monitoring program this Saturday at various locations within the county.

Health Department Director Gina Egan says clean water is essential..

"....we're trying to take a look at the quality of water here in Vilas county. Healthy drinking water is fundamental to a healthy life. We want to make sure everyone's water is safe...."

Egan says the program is open to all Vilas county residents and property owners. Egan says they hope this is the start of a long-term initiative to promote high quality drinking water.

Water sample kits will cost $45 at the door and will check for bacteria, nitrate and arsenic.

The meetings Saturday will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the town halls in O' Lakes, Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction and at the Vilas County Health Department in Eagle River. If the finished water samples can't be dropped off at the town halls that day, they can be returned to the Vilas County Health Department. Contact them if you have questions.
