Vilas County Backs Change In Senior ADRC Program

ADRC of the Northwoods

An application to the state to allow Vilas County operation of the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) on its own was approved by the county board last Tuesday (3-18), thereby making the county Commisison on Aging department a one-stop shop for state programs for seniors should the state approve the requet.

Currently, Vilas County is part of the ADRC of the Northwoods jointly with Oneida, Forest, and Taylor counties. Oneida County has already approved an application to operate the ADRC programs on its own starting Jan 1, 2019. The Commission on Aging department will comply with the duties and requirements of Chapter DHS 10 administrative code as well as requirements for county aging units under the Older Americans Act and the Wisconsin Elders Act.

In answer to a question, Commission on Aging director Sue Richmond said there would be a need for a part-time benefit specialist and it would be funded by a state grant and billed to Medicaid. The board approved the application on a 16-1 vote with supervisor Ron Kressin opposed.

In other action the county board approved wage increases for the Sheriff and Clerk of Court for the next four years. Salaries must be set for these elected positions prior to the first day nomination papers could be circulated. The Sheriff will have an increase of 7% effective January 1, 2019 and 2% each year for the last three years of the four year term. The Clerk of Court will receive a 4% increase effective January 1, 2019, 1.5% January 1, 2020, and 2% each year for the last two years of the four year term.

Finally the board approved sale of tax delinquent lands totaling $140,000 in appraised value.
