Vilas County Courthouse Steel Bids Awarded

Construction bids for steel and steel erection for the $10.4 million Vilas County courthouse addition were opened and awarded by the county public property committee. (9/13/2016)

The bid for steel material went to Nimsgern Steel of Minocqua with a low bid of $286,420. The bid for erecting the steel that forms the building skeleton went to Industrial Construction Specialists of Eau Claire with a low bid of $128,600. The highest bid for steel was $610,000 and for putting it up was $172,879.

Bids were received from two companies for a 4,500 and 3,500 pound elevator. The public property committee selected the bid of Otis for a 3,500 elevator with a bid of $128,228. This bid was $229 higher than a Schindler bid but Otis is the same type as the current courthouse elevator. The preliminary budget had $80,000 for an elevator.

Steel construction is expected to start late November or early December.
