Vilas County Moves Forward With Courthouse Study

The Vilas county board is moving forward on a study to look at a courthouse addition conceptual planning and court security study. The board approved hiring an architectural firm and a consulting firm to bring forward plans.

The board voted 16-2 to spend more than $26,000 to hire Potter Lawson from Madison to revisit expanding the courthouse. The board previously had approved the idea that Vilas county needs another courtroom and judge to meet the workload. They sent that request to the state. The new concept would include that new courtroom.
The board also approved hiring  The Samuels Group of Wausau , to assist the county with pre-construction services during the planning and study phase. That cost is $5,500.

In 2010, the board halted plans for expanding the courthouse.

The report from Potter Lawson architects will likely be ready this summer.

The board also approved hiring Jarred Maney to the Highway Commissioner through this year.
