Vilas County RV Park Development Approved

A short agenda didn't mean a short meeting of the Vilas County board who took well over an hour on one resolution to approve development of a Recreational Vehicle  park on the county forest near Torch Lake in the town of Conover.

Supervisor Art Kunde described for the board Phase I would build 22 sites, which the resolution being debated called for, with Phase II in the future for 18 sites after obtaining funding.

“We had a design cost of $33,000 and have $320,000 in grant funding which leaves us $195,000 short of the bid,” Kunde explained. “We're asking for that amount from the segregated land account which are funds from the sale of tax delinquent properties.”

Town of Conover supervisor Tom Timkin said “we are concerned you won't go forward with this and we're very much in favor” of the RV park.

An adopted amendment by Supervisor Jay Verhulst directed a business plan be developed for future decisions and the board approved development of Phase I and the $195,000 requested.
