www.freestockphotos.biz

Several cases of viral meningitis have been reported at Crandon schools according to the school district's website. Forest County Health Department Director Jill Krueger describes the illness...

"Viral meningitis is an inflammation of the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord. It can be caused by several different viruses...."

This is not to be confused with bacterial meningitis which is much more serious.

Krueger says it affects people in different ways...

"....when they get ill, most people will recover on their own and not know that they've had the virus. Some people get sicker and they may get a fever, headache, stiff neck, may have some stomach issues, feel very tired...."

Symptoms can last up to 10 days and a person can expect full recovery according to the school district's website.
