Volunteers Needed For Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Salvation Army

They're off to a good start, but more help is needed as the Salvation Army bell ringers are out hoping the public contributes to help others in need.

Rhinelander area bell ringing coordinator is Kim Swisher. She says they have an ambitious goal....

".....our goal this year is the same as last year which is $40,000 and as of December 2nd in the morning we were only at $13,400. I hope people can give whateve they can give, pennies, dimes, dollars and twenties. Whatever you can share will be gratefully appreciated....."

She says 86 cents of every dollar donated stays here and helps people in need, normally administered by area churches..

".....they provide vouchers for emergency housing, a night or two at a hotel until people can get settled at Frederick Place or find other accomodations. We also assist with emergency transportation, perhaps a gas card or maybe small repairs to a car...."

Bell ringers are at Walmart, Trigs and Shopko in Rhinelander. Bell ringers are also in most other Northwoods communities. Swisher says they also need more volunteers to ring bells, as more time ringing means more donations.

Swisher says you can find out more at the Facebook page of the Rhinelander Salvation Army or you can sign up online atoneidawi.volunteerfirst.org
