Wabeno Schools Have Referendum Questions April 4

Wikimedia Commons

Wabeno School District voters will consider two referendum questions next month.

District Administrator Jennifer Vogler outlines the questions....

"....one of our questions is for a $1 million, 600 thousand dollars a year. The second question on the referendum ballot will be for a Fab Lab for the first year on the referendum ballot for $300,000...."

A FAB LAB is a fabrication laboratory, using advanced computer design to build items on a 3-D printer. Several school districts in the Northwoods have FAB LABS. Vogler says students can incorporate science, math, technology and engineering into their studies with a Fab Lab. She says the FAB LAB would be open to all members of the community to learn and use. She says several related industries using advanced technology are already in the region. She says this will help local industries find qualified workers.

Vogler says the impact to local taxpayers finds the current mill rate is $5.88 cents per thousand dollars. Should the referendums pass, it would be $6.85 cents per thousand. She says the increase on a $100,000 home would be $97 per year...

"....what we are looking at is to expand and maintain our educational opportunities for our students. Keep our facilities in the fantastic condition we have them in. Our high school is 80 years old but you would not be able to tell that by walking our halls. Our community members are frequently using our building and so are out students. That is something we are looking at...."

Vogler says the district's report card from the state put them in 'exceeding expectations from the state' or at least meeting expectations. Vogler says they have a great school system and they want to sustain that progress. The website is here.
