Warmer Weather Means Storms And A NOAA Radio

Wikipedia

Summer storm season is nearing, and emergency management officials are urging citizens to buy a NOAA weather radio as a way to protect yourself in heavy weather.

Oneida County Emergency Management spokesperson Dawn Robinson says the specially produced radios can alert you to any type of public notification...

"....they can be used for weather forecasts, watches, warnings, emergency and non-emergency information. If there was any event that occurred in Oneida county we could possibly get a message through(on the radios)...it would alert people to tune into their local radio and TV stations for more details...."

Robinson says the radios are very handy if your out boating and severe weather approaches...

"...timing is of the essence. When a watch is issued, you should already be looking at what your plan is in case it becomes a warning so you already have those procedures in place. What you should do and what your family should do before an event happens...."

Robinson says you can get weather radios at Oneida County Emergency Management office or at retailers in the region. She says they even have accessories that will shake your bed or turn on strobe lights if an alert is issued.

May 2 is NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Day in Wisconsin.
