Welsh Agrees To Plea Bargain For April Shooting Incident

WXPR

A 60 year old Tripoli area man has agreed to a plea bargain in exchange for dropping attempted homicide charges.

Kenneth Welsh was arrested April 19 after gunfire at a home he shares with another person. Welsh initially was charged with four counts, including attempted homicide. Though shots were fired by the other person involved, that person was not charged in the incident.

Oneida County District Attorney Michael Schiek says as part of the plea bargain, attempted homicide charges were dropped with another charge in its place...

"....first degree recklessly endangering safety as a Class "F" felony, maximum penalty is 12 and a half years in prison..."

Two other counts were dropped, but Welsh agreed to enter a no contest plea to having a firearm while intoxicated. Discussions also centered on a recommendation from the state on sentencing which would be far less time behind bars than the maximum.

Judge Michael Bloom ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set Welsh's sentencing for December 13 after a pre-sentence investigation.
