Last April, a school referendum at White Lake lost by the narrowest of margins. Voters next Tuesday in that district will again see the same question.
School Superintendent Bill Fisher says voters will consider whether to exceed mandated state spending limits by $250,000 a year for three years. This vote is non-recurring, meaning it is only for the term specified, which is three years.
Voters in April turned down a similar request by two votes for the Langlade county district. Fisher says the request is for operations and maintenance. He says the school board decided to try one more time after the close vote....
"....we had several community members come in and ask us to come back in the fall. So after taking a look at it and knowing we are facing a $260,000 deficit budget. The board unanimously voted to bring the question back to voters on November 4...."
Fisher says they have already cut $106,000 out of the budget by reducing employee benefits, home economics and foreign languages programming has been cut, including administrative staff reductions and custodial staff reductions.
Fisher says if the the referendum doesn't pass, they will have to look at cutting programs.
