Witnesses Testify Against Jones

Forest County Sheriff's Dept.

More witnesses testified Wednesday in the Ray Jones trial at Crandon. Jones is charged with attempted homicide for his role in severely beating Steven Roberts and leaving him for the wolves to kill along a Forest County ATV trail in sub-freezing weather.

Overall, 9 Deputies, medical staff, and eyewitnesses to the crimes testified Wednesday. One of them is the man Jones' attorney says is really responsible for the beating. Justin Bey admitted hitting Roberts, but says it was Jones that kicked Roberts in the ribs, back, head, and stomach. During the investigation, Jones told officers it was Bey who severely beat Roberts and not him.

Justin Bey will be back on the witness stand Thursday, as the prosecution wraps up its case. Bey is already in jail awaiting sentencing for his part in the beating. He is testifying against Jones as part of a plea deal.
The defense is expected to begin their case later in the day.

The events that led to holding Roberts against his will, beating him, and leaving him for dead are allegedly because Roberts inappropriately touched a child Jones knows. More on that is expected during defense testimony.
