Wolf River A Foot Below Flood Level

en.wikipedia.org

High water levels along the Wolf River in Langlade county are not likely to hit flood stage says a National Weather Service meteorologist in Green Bay.

Meteorologist-In-Charge Matt Lorentson says they've been monitoring the river flows there following weeks of liquid precipitation in the Northwoods....

"....the Wolf River is coming down. Langlade is at 10.3 feet and is expected to be at that stage for several days. At about 10.5 feet they get a buildup of water within the banks of the river...."

Lorentson says around nine and a half feet, there is minor flooding in the lowlands in the vicinity of the town of Langlade. But Lorentson says they think the river has peaked about a foot below flood stage. He says it will likely stay as a buildup of water along the banks. Lorentson says the heavy rains in December caused the unusual runoff situation....

"....the one positive is we can dispense with the water a little bit quicker. Since we don't really have any frost right now, there's a little more porosity. We don't run into as many issues when we can soak up the water, but it is close to saturated...."

He says the warmer temperatures also reduced the risk of ice jams causing flooding.
