WPS Offering Educators Grants For Science, Tech, Math

Grants up to $1,000 are being offered by the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation  for the Innovative Educator Program. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of Wisconsin Public Service.

The grant is an opportunity for middle, junior high or high school educators to get money for new projects in specific areas says Todd Steffen from WPS...

"...we're trying to focus student achievements in the area of science, technology, engineering or math. Those are the areas that we are trying to further education in those areas..."

Steffen says educators could submit projects that include engineering mentoring programs, robotics, energy lessons, or environmental projects. The grants may be used to purchase certain types of equipment or curriculum materials. To be eligible, schools need to be electric or natural gas customers of Wisconsin Public Service.

During the first seven years of the program, 85 projects have received more than $78,000 in grants.
Steffen says the funds for the Foundation program come from shareholders, not utility rate payers.

More information is available at the Wisconsin Public Servicewebsite.
