WXPR Hires Rondello As New Station Manager

After a nationwide search, WXPR Public Radio has hired longtime Northwoods resident and current WXPR volunteer Pete Rondello as new station manager.

Rondello graduated from Eagle River High School and currently lives near Boulder Junction.  Though he’s worked with Coldwell Banker in Minocqua for more than twenty years, Rondello has a background in radio that predates his work in real estate.

“I started when I was 16 years old, and was an on-air announcer at WERL in Eagle River, which was an AM and FM combo,” Rondello describes.  From there he spent time at WRLO and WATK in Antigo and WOBT and WRHN in Rhinelander, before becoming General Manager at what was formerly WWMH in Minocqua (now 95.9 WMQA).

Rondello says he’s excited to be returning to radio, especially public radio.  “I just really love that media: the idea that you can use your imagination.  There’s some romance involved, and WXPR because it’s public and because it’s local still carries that romance and those warm feelings.”

Rondello has volunteered at WXPR for three years, working as a substitute host for Your Favorites, an afternoon show that ranges in style from big band to adult contemporary. “It was and is a ton of fun,” Rondello says, adding, “I love coming in and volunteering on the Your Favorites show.”

Rondello says he’s looking forward to beginning work as WXPR, and bringing fresh ideas and outreach to the station.  “I’m just really excited to work for WXPR because it’s really a treasure,” he explains.  “Everybody at the station is so dedicated and so passionate about the work that they do.  We have such a great diverse group of people that come in every day to share their gifts.  The business community has also been very supportive.”

Rondello takes over following the departure of Peg Arnold, who left in September of 2014.  He’ll assume his role on a part-time basis on January 5, 2015, and step fully into the role on January 19.
