YMCA Of The Northwoods Offers Cancer Survivors Help

YMCA of the Northwoods

A program at the YMCA of the Northwoods helps adult cancer survivors rebuild strength and stamina. The "Y" and LIVESTRONG partnered to create a physical activity and well-being program to help cancer survivors achieve their health goals.

LIVESTRONG Coordinator at the YMCA is Marilyn Duschl says the goal is to get the survivors to get closer to the activities they had before they had cancer...

"...it runs for 12 weeks and it's a free program at the YMCA because we feel it's a real needed program in the community to assist those people with cancer....."

Duschl says the program starts at the point that the cancer survivor feels they are at from a physical standpoint...

"...we gradually increase what they are able to do. It is based on an individuals place of start. Our goal is to keep improving that a little bit. Giving them more strength, more endurance, maybe a little better sleep. Helping them feel better about themselves so they can do more....."

Duschl says to participate, there needs to be a strong personal desire for the program, a commitment to attend regularly, physician approval and all forms filled out. More information is available through Marilyn Duschl at the YMCA of the Northwoods. The telephone number is 715-362-9622 or the website ymcaofthenorthwoods.org
