Minocqua's Caritas Helps Fill Gaps For Those In Need

Caritas is located at 300 Arbor Vitae Street, next to St. Matthias Church in Minocqua. Hours are Tues and Thurs 9:30 – 11 a.m. and the last Saturday of each month, 9:30 – 11 a.m.

There are a number of agencies in the Northwoods that help people in need, but when you’re faced with a crisis, it can be difficult to figure out where to go. Who do you call, and how do you pay for gas to get there? One Minocqua organization aims to address that challenge.

Caritas is a one-stop shop for people in Vilas and Oneida Counties in temporary urgent need of help. Run by volunteers and donations, it’s given out more than $2300 of emergency help to over 250 people since it opened just over a year ago. Sometimes, says volunteer Laurie Glowac,

Social Services Report Said To Be "Heartbreaking"

An annual report filed by the Oneida County Department of Social Services has stirred one board member to call portions of the report..."heartbreaking".


During last week's county board meeting, Carol Pederson, a member of the county Social Services committee said after reading the detailed report...



".....to think there is so much dysfunction in families in our county breaks my heart. But I'm very proud with what the Department of Social Services is doing...."
