Northland Pines to Take Over Eagle River YMCA

The YMCA of the Northwoods is stepping away from its facility in Eagle River.  As of March 1st the Northland Pines School District will run the fitness center that’s housed at Northland Pines High School.

YMCA Interim CEO Laurie Schlitt says the Eagle River facility has been operating at an average loss of $15,000 a year, subsidized by fundraising and the Rhinelander location.

National Event Highlights Afterschool Programs

Local organizations are helping put the spotlight on the importance of afterschool programs.  Lights On Afterschool is an event happening nationwide.  Old School Arts and Learning Center is having an open house Wednesday.  Director Louise Perreault says programs are intended to keep kids from having to be home alone after school.

Couch Potato Race

A couch on asphalt is a good omen when contemplating entry in YMCA's Couch Potato Race at Rhinelander's PotatoFest August 31.
