Big Bundle Up

For the seventh year in a row, the state Tourism Department is heading up a collection of winter clothing items for those in need.

The "Big Bundle Up" campaign encourages Wisconsinites to donate gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, coats, and other warm winter  gear. Drop off sites have opened, and they'll keep collecting things through January second.

The Big Bundle Up is an annual charity drive inviting folks to donate warm winter items for those in need.

Tourism organizations across the state collect new or gently used coats, mittens, hats, scarves, snow pants, and other warm clothing items that are then donated to local charities. Several Chambers of Commerce in the Northwoods and some businesses are involved in the collection.

More than 11,000 items were donated during the Department of Tourism's recent "Big Bundle Up" campaign. including items from the Rhinelander, Tomahawk, Minocqua and St. Germain Chambers of Commerce.

Tourism spokesperson Danielle Johnson says the campaign came about after a Wisconsin Tourism promotion made the state look like a mitten. Michigan's Tourism Department was annoyed, saying Michigan looks more like a mitten than Wisconsin. Both states agreed to resolve the dispute by gathering warm clothes for the needy.
