The Forest County Potawatomi Community is taking a first step towards controlling water quality on its reservation. The Wisconsin DNR is looking for public input on the proposal.

The tribe has applied to the EPA for treatment as state.  Which means it would have authority to uphold water quality standards on the reservation.  Potawatomi spokesperson George Ermert says to do that the tribe must prove that is has the resources to manage water quality.

A report on Indian gaming is drawing mixed interpretations about how casinos are doing in Wisconsin. 

The report from gaming information publisher Casino City shows a slight increase in Wisconsin’s gaming revenue from 2011 and 2012.  But it also shows more than 3-percent drop over six years, from 2007 through 2012.

  A tribal spokesperson supports a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel editorial last weekend asking Governor Walker to make a decision soon on a new $800 million casino complex in Kenosha county. The Menominee Nation is requesting a new casino be built at the former Dairyland Greyhound Park. While nine Wisconsin tribes back the proposal, two do not: the Ho-Chunk tribe and the Forest County Potawatomi Community. Both tribes have gambling facilities off reservation.
