The Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Woodruff each year hosts a presentation celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. They bring in a special guest to talk about the legacy left by Dr. King as it relates to today's issues. This year, the guest is from close to home. Cara Fitzgerald is a 2001 Rhinelander High School grad and teaches English in Madison-area schools. She and other staff at one school worked to have the entire school read on police and race relations and have a conversation about it. The idea has spread to other schools.

A former leader of the National Organization for Women is speaking in the in Northwoods next week.

Judy Goldsmith was President of NOW in the 1980s, and most recently served as Campus Dean and CEO of UW Fond du Lac.

During her time at NOW, Goldsmith worked with Coretta Scott King to organize a commemorative March on Washington in the 1980s…in honor of Martin Luther King Jr’s historic march in 1963.

Her talk scheduled for Martin Luther King Jr Day is titled “Red, White and Broke: Escalating Inequality in America.”
