Planners Need To Think About Nature In Communities

  A UW-Superior educator... speaking recently in Tomahawk... says the research is showing the more people are involved in nature, the more likely they are to want to take care of it. Esther Gieschen was one of the presenters at the recent Northwoods Research Summit at UWSP-Treehaven. Gieschen says as people began to interact more with the natural world, their awareness of grew..

Economic Models Are Changing To "Local Development"

  There's a change going on in local economies, centering on more "micro" and less "macro". The 7th annual Northwoods Research Summit opened Thursday UWSP-Treehaven near Tomahawk. Keynote speaker was Jerry Hembd, Professor of Business and Economics at UW-Superior. Hembd says there's a shift happening between how we economically relate to the environment and the environment. He says current thinking is a short-term dynamic,  that we can continue to grow infinitely, and  technology has all the answers...

Research Summit Asks How to Strengthen Communities

A research summit next week looks at community development in the Northwoods.  It takes place at UW Stevens Point’s Treehaven.  

Community sustainability is the theme of the 7th Northwoods Research Summit. 

Treehaven Director Corky McRenolds says presentation and discussion topics are broad…to look at all the components of a thriving community.
