Two northern Wisconsin legislators have unveiled a proposal they say is designed to protect homeonwers rights. State Senator Tom Tiffany of Hazelhurst and Representative Adam Jarchow of Balsam Lake Wednesday presented the "Homeowners Bill of Rights".

Tiffany says the goal is to give homeowners more protection....

A sponsor of a bill to cut regulations for people involved in the aquaculture industry passed a state Senate committee last week says the bill, if approved, will cut red tape for people in the aquaculture industry.

Others said it endangers public waters. Senate bill 493 passed 3-2 to go the full Senate for debate.

The state Senate Committee on Sporting Heritage, Mining and Forestry advanced to the full Senate changes in Wisconsin's Managed Forest Law that author Tom Tiffany says were needed.

The Managed Forest Law is a landowner incentive program encouraging sustainable forestry on private woodland. In exchange for following sound forest management, the landowner pays reduced property taxes. Tiffany says most of the changes approved in committee were technical, but he says one provision could help local governments...

Two Northwoods legislators think a bill to increase the speed limit on Wisconsin's four lanes five miles per hour will be met favorably.

The bill authored in the Assembly would give the Department of Transportation the authority to up the Interstate speed limit to 70 from the current 65 but wouldn't be required to do so.

Representative Rob Swearingen sits on the Assembly Transportation committee thinks it will move forward. He says a majority of people testifying at a hearing this week were in favor of the bill..

Legislators have introduced bills creating a heating assistance loan program designed to help propane users.

In January, Governor Walker declared a state of emergency due to the propane shortage and established a $3 million loan guarantee program. Sponsors say the loans help those who can't get low-income energy assistance.

Governor Walker Thursday said he has called a special session of the legislature to work on his Blueprint for Prosperity announced during his "State of the State" address.

Walker announced that a major portion of a projected $911 million surplus will be returned to property      taxpayers and workers.

The author of Senate Bill 1, or what's known as the "mining bill" disagrees with one legislator's interpretation that mining is allowed on lakebeds and waterways.

Democrat Dana Wach's bill would make it clear that certain types of mining would not be allowed on lakebeds. He says the revised mining bill has loophole language to that effect.
