133rd Arbor Day Celebration

DNR

April 29 marks the 133rd year of the annual tree celebration known as Arbor Day. The holiday is celebrated the last Friday in April and promotes the natural and economic benefits trees give. Communities, school kids and businesses across the state take part in the celebration by planting trees, and DNR Urban Forestry Team Leader Jeff Roe says the holiday promotes commitment to the study and appreciation of trees and forests….

“… it celebrates the planting of trees and investing in our future and the benefits those trees provide, everything from shade and beautification to storm water carbon sequestration, wildlife benefits, heating and cooling benefits; just celebrates the value we recognize in our trees and natural resources.”

Roe says the Division of Forestry donated 38,000 tree seedlings to fourth grade classrooms across the state in light of the Arbor Day celebration.
