600 Volunteers Needed This Weekend In Minocqua

en.wikipedia.org

600 volunteers are needed this Saturday at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua for the 9th annual Food For Kidz food packaging event to benefit the hungry.

Food For Kidz is a non-profit organization that packages dried foods to be sent to third-world countries. John Breiten is co-chair of the Food For Kidz Minocqua committee....

"....and the goal is to again package 175,000 meals in four hours. To do that, we need 600 volunteers show up at Lakeland Union High School on Saturday, October 22...."

Breiten says the volunteers work in teams to package the food to be shipped out...

".....we have two shifts, 8:00 a.m.to 10:00 a.m. where we need 300 volunteers and then 10:00 a.m. to noon we need another 300 volunteers..."

He says it's not uncommon to see 150 volunteers show up the day of production to work and all are welcome. 30 tables are set up with bulk foods with 10 volunteers at each table for both morning and afternoon packaging sessions.

Breiten says there are sign up sheets at area churches or just show up Saturday at Lakeland Union High School. He says in a prior session they passed one million meals packaged and shipped.

He says it costs about $31,000 to buy the foods and money donations are always accepted.

Breiten says you may call him for more information at 715-686-7570 or come to the school on Saturday.
