A bowl of hot soup sounds good on a cold day, and an opportunity for that warmth will help feed and house others in 2018.
The annual Lakeland Soup For Shelter benefit is set for January 13 at Holy Family Catholic Church on Highway "J" in Woodruff.
Frederick Place Homeless Shelter Executive Director Tammy Modic says area restaurants donate soup to enjoy....
"....the doors will open at 5 with soup being served right away. They're going to enjoy some great soups from the restuarants there, Culvers, Polecat and Lace, Island Cafe, as well as some desserts that will be made by the Holy Family Circle of Women...."
The local Knights of Columbus will help serve. Modic says it's a free will offering and there will be basket raffles which require a ticket purchase. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. She outlines what the funds are used for...
"...that money is used for the operation of Frederick Place homeless shelter. We can service up to 16 individuals, averaging 10-12 any given night. It costs about $45 a day per person to be there. Every little bit helps and anything people can do to support us at this event and enjoy some great food is a plus...."
The Northwoods Alliance for Temporary House is the organization that operates Frederick Place in Rhinelander. The shelter offers emergency shelter for families and individuals from Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties. Modic says the annual budget is $259,000 which include 24-hour staffing, food, utilities and much more. More information is available online at nathnorthwoods.com
