Another LUHS Renovation Project Looms, but Concerns Linger with Architect

The auditorium renovation work at Lakeland Union High School is nearly done, but the district’s building and grounds committee is unhappy with the project’s architect, Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) of Wausau.

But committee chair Ed Schaub told the committee he's upset with things....

“We didn’t get our first change orders on this project until the nineteenth of August. Not one, in writing to us. They were supposed to be signed off before we even did the work.”

They want a meeting with the architectural firm to go over concerns, including what members feel was a lack of communication by SEH during construction.

The meeting’s outcome may determine whether the district retains SEH as the project manager for phase 3 of the district’s renovation projects. Phase 3 calls for replacing the stadium bleachers, constructing a new press box, concession stand, bathrooms and locker rooms.

In addition, the committee is leaning towards having Miron Construction of Neenah do phase 3 if they hold to the $2.1 million bid they submitted last spring. Miron also won the auditorium contract.

The committee’s recommendation on whether or not to proceed with phase 3 will come at this month’s school board meeting.
