Antigo Gets DOT Grant For Volm Expansion

The city of Antigo has picked up a large grant to improve access to a company that is expanding.

The Walker Administration announced the $100,000 Transportation Assistance Grant, which will lead to the design and resurfacing of the north end of Clermont Street to benefit the expansion of Volm Companies' Plaspack USA plant. The plastic and mesh bag manufacturer is building a new 36,900 square foot building at a cost of $4.1 million. That building will house resin silos and production equipment and the addition will manufacture high-tech mesh products.

The Clermont Street project improvements include wider cross-sections to handle increased truck traffic, employee traffic and improved drainage and will result in a better pavement design of an all-weather, all-season corridor. The grant covers half of the $200,000 construction project. The other half is being provided by the city of Antigo. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2016 and be completed that fall.
