The body of a boater who went missing from a fishing boat in Vilas county has been recovered.
Vilas County Sheriff's deputies report the man was found by a DNR warden on Big Sand Lake near Phelps Saturday morning. No foul play was suspected and is believed to have been an accident. An autopsy will be performed this week. The name of the victim will be released when relatives are notified.
Authorities were called Monday midday when a boat was found with lights on and motor running, but no one in the boat.
Joining Vilas county was the DNR, Oeida County Dive Team, Phelps Fire Department, Phelps Women’s Auxiliary, numerous citizens from the Phelps and surrounding towns.
