The group Caritas of Eagle River has received a $500 grant from the Shopko Foundation to support its efforts to help people in need.

Caritas of Eagle River is an inter-faith outreach center sponsored by several Eagle River area churches. Co-Director Janon Furlong says the effort is to help the neediest people....

"....we hope to help our neighbors who are finding themselves in tough circumstances. We want to help them with money, we want to help them with advice, guidance and comfort...."

Furlong says they advertise in the media, have posters at various locations and law enforcement and social service agencies guide people to the group. She says they are at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Eagle River for office hours each Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Furlong says the grant will help more needy families in the region. She says they get funding from the six sponsoring churches, Shepard of the Lakes in Sayner, Pioneer Lake Lutheran in Conover, Faith Lutheran in Three Lakes, Prince of Peace Lutheran and First Congregational UCC and St. Francis Episcopal Church in Eagle River.

Volunteers are always welcome to join as are donations. For more information, stop by during open office hours on Wednesday or call (715) 480-5683.
