Discussions Stalled On Forest Co. Off-Road Park

The process to build an off-road vehicle park in Forest county has stalled after a committee working on the plan didn't get the information needed from the developer.

Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park has proposed a 10,000 acre facility which they say will be a national attraction in Forest county for off-roaders. Opponents say  it could initially cost taxpayers with no guarantee of a payback. The county has been debating whether to modify its 15 year Comprehensive Land Use Plan to facilitate the park.

County Forest Administrator David Ziolkowski says they did go through the proposed amendments to the plan. He says the county can't unilaterally make the changes to the plan due to  state statute and local ordinance considerations...

"....we aren't being restrictive to restrict development of the park but we're trying to comply with current state statutes and administrative codes. We had the opportunity to explain that. It's unfortunate. We were hoping for a definition from(WORVPI) as to what their (plans are)....."

Ziolkowski  says they asked for more detailed information from the group and they did not get it.  He says nothing can happen until another meeting is scheduled in January and the needed information is supplied by the developer. WORPI President John Schnoor emailed that he didn't attend due to illness. He detailed  the group's response to several points, but no action will take place until next month.
