The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is giving away a limited number of endangered resources specialty plates.
The eagle license plate features the latest design of the Endangered Resources license plate that has raised money since 1995 to help care for Wisconsin's native wildlife, plants and state natural areas. Revenues from the annual donation motorists pay for the plate have played an important role in helping restore bald eagles, trumpeter swans and other once endangered species to Wisconsin.
Natural Heritage Conservation Program Director Drew Feldkirchner says the giveaway celebrates the one year anniversary of the new plate.
“…We’re only giving away10 so, for this time around we got a private donation to pay for the fees. It’s a $40 fee the first time you get a plate because it includes not only the $25 donation but the $15 issuance fee. The contest goes through September 2 we’re going to try to work quickly probably within the month we will be awarding the 10 plates.”
Feldkirchner says entries are limited to owners of a registered Wisconsin vehicle such as an automobile, light and farm truck or motor home.
Feldkirchner says winners who want to keep their eagle plate will be responsible for the $25 annual donation required to own the plate.
