Drug Take Back Day is Saturday

en.wikipedia.org

Law enforcement agencies are hosting the spring Drug Take Back Day on April 30.

In Oneida county, four agencies are participating. The initiative gives residents a chance to bring in unused legal drugs for disposal, no questions asked. Rhinelander Police Captain Ron Lueneburg(lew-en-berg) describes what is accepted...

"....people are encouraged to bring in prescription drugs that are no longer being used. expired vitamins, any kind of drugs that they have in the house that is out of date, or no longer being used or maybe belonged to a relative that has passed on that were left behind in the residence...."

Lueneburg says the effort continues to focus on prescription opiate abuse. Officials says unused or expired medicine should never be flushed down a drain. Those chemicals are showing up in our public waters. All drugs must be generated by a household, not a business. Items not accepted include illegal drugs, needles, inhalers, anything with body fluids, or other hazardous waste.

Four locations are will be accepting the drugs, including Rhinelander Police Department, Three Lakes Town hall, Oneida County Landfill, and Minocqua Police Department. Collection time are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact your local law enforcement agency if you have questions.
