A rising purse has attracted a nationwide pool of race drivers as the Eagle River Derby Track is the site of the first annual ATV-UTV World Championship this weekend.
Derby spokesperson Russ Davis says drivers are coming from many states, including Texas and California. Davis says interest grew as the purse did. Initially it was $15,000 and has grown to more than $60,000. Davis says this style of racing is new to the Upper Midwest...
"....there are a lot of side-by-side races out west but it's mainly desert racing but with the Derby track we have here it's mainly ovals and where we have sno-cross and now it's been converted to a short course like a motorcross course..."
Davis says racers from the upper Midwest are excited because it's a chance for them to race close to home.
