Final Round of Deer Council Meetings Next Week

County Deer Advisory Councils are preparing final antlerless quota and permit recommendations during the last round of spring meetings next week.

The councils were established by the state in every county to provide guidance to the DNR on deer issues.

The councils first met last month and a comment period ended Wednesday.

DNR big game section chief Bob Nack says the input will help the DNR set deer quotas...

"....at their first meeting in March, they laid out they're preliminary recommendations for the antlerless(deer) harvest quotas and permit levels. Since that time, there's been a public comment period that was open until April 15 and now they're meeting next week to finalize their recommendations to the department...."

The next meetings begin next Monday. Nack says people still have time to register their opinions by attending the advisory council meetings in their counties. The list of locations and times are on the DNR website. The recommendations are expected to go to the state in May.
