Forestry Committee Opens Door to Accommodating Off-Road Park

A plan for an off-road park on county land is still on the table in Forest County.

The forestry committee has given the okay to develop amendments to the county’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan…that are needed to allow for park development.

The nonprofit Wisconsin Off-Road Vehicle Park Incorporated says the 10,000 acre park will be a huge tourist draw, but some say the proposal to have the county buy the land is too big a risk.

County Forester David Ziolkowski says the forestry committee will meet again to work on actual draft language for amendments.  That draft will go to a public hearing before it’s sent to the full Forest County board.

He says right now the committee doesn’t have enough information about the off-road park to know what the amendments might say.

If the full Forest County Board eventually approves amendments to the land use plan, the DNR must also give its stamp of approval to any changes in the land use plan for county forest.
