Klett: Hazelhurst Resort Video Sets Viewing Record

Wisconsin Department of Tourism

The state's top tourism official says a video of a Hazelhurst resort has become the leader for hits on the Department of Tourism site.

Secretary Stephanie Klett says Travel Wisconsin's online video,'Real Fun: Our Wisconsin Cabin Story,' has hit more than four million views across its social media channels. It profiles a summer vacation at Black's Cliff Resort in Hazelhurst...

"....we've never had an online video hit one million views, not even Jordy Nelson. So here in northern Wisconsin we captured what it feels like to get away with your family for the cabin and cottage getaway. The world is responding, four million of them....."

The video follows the Thompson family on their annual summer vacation to Hazelhurst where they have visited every summer for nearly 60 years. Klett says the video, which ties in to the tourism brand of fun, is a part of Travel Wisconsin's Real Fun video series highlighting authentic Wisconsin travel experiences from residents and visitors.

Also, Klett says tourism remains a main business driver in the Northwoods.

"....it's a $19.3 billion dollar industry and employs about 190,000 people full-time. In the Northwoods, county after county, tourism is number one in what is bringing in the revenue...."

Klett says she heard that other than the flooding problems, summer tourism developed overall into a 'great year'. She says overall the weather has proven to be helpful. But she says the glaring lack of employees is a problem plaguing tourism and other industries. That fact was hammered home a number of times at last week's Northern Wisconsin Economic Development Summit in Minocqua.

Governor Walker outlined various approaches to find more workers already living in Wisconsin but not in the workforce, or underemployed.
