LDF Tribal Council Passes Emergency Resolution

The recent shooting of a juvenile moose on the Lac du Flambeau reservation has led the Tribal Council to pass an emergency rule prohibiting the killing of moose, along with other endangered species on tribal land. The action was passed Monday night.

The resolution says there was outrage among tribal members when a tribal member killed the moose, which had been seen on tribal lands for awhile prior to it being shot. The emergency rule says it's unlawful for any person to take, attempt to take, harass, intentionally kill or wound or attempt to kill or wound, or transport or possess any moose, white or albino deer, elk, cougar, gray wolf, badger, lynx, marten, flying squirrel or wolverine within the exterior boundaries of the Lac du Flambeau Reservation.

The emergency rule will stay in place until a more formal resolution is passed by the tribal council.

In a press release, the council thanked tribal members who came forward to express their displeasure with the killing of the moose.
