While Black Friday and Cyber Monday draw the attention of bargain hunters to large box stores, Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to support local businesses. Cynde Goll is a barista at The Briar House in Rhinelander, and says it’s a day to highlight specialty stores, and their unique gifts.
“…it brings money back into the community. Something like 16 percent of what is spent is put back into the community and the people in the community, so it’s important to support what comes from here stays here.”
Goll says unlike what box stores have on Black Friday, small businesses have one of a kind knick-nacks and gifts you can’t find anywhere else. She says many small businesses in downtown Rhinelander and in the Northwoods will have special deals as an incentive to shop local on Small Business Saturday.
