Minocqua electorate gives supervisors big pay boost

www.publicdomainpictures.net

Just a handful of electors in the audience – 9 to be precise – gave future holders of Minocqua supervisor posts a 33 percent pay boost at Thursday’s annual town meeting.

The unanimous vote brings the annual supervisor pay to $8,000 from $6,000 currently. The increases will take effect at the next term of the elected office for the four posts.

Elector Jerry Mader explains his motion to increase the salaries:

“These supervisors here need to have a raise, because I feel that they are working for a minimum wage. They do a lot of stuff other than what you just see here, knocking their pencils on the table. They do a lot of stuff on the side and I think they should be paid for it.”

The short, 35-minute town meeting include a review of 2015 operations and the town board receiving electorate permission to decide at regular board meetings to allow utility sheds on town property.
