MInocquadragonboat.com

Dragons are coming to the Northwoods.

Businesses, organizations and service clubs will compete in the 1st Annual Dragon Boat Races on Lake Minocqua August 20. Teams of 20 paddlers in a 45 foot long boat will race a 300 meter straight, point-to-point course along the shores of Torpy Park.  The event is a fundraiser for the Howard Young Foundation. President Mike Gibbons says they still need teams…

“…To register a team or any information you need to know is on our website Minocqua dragon boat. Com or you can get to that site from our Howard Young Foundation . org website…We were hoping to have everyone registered by July 1, but we still have room for 7 or 8 more teams, so we’ve extended that deadline to August 1.”

Gibbons says about 30 teams are registered. He says the foundation bought a practice boat for teams to improve their skills and techniques before race day.

Practices are led by an experienced dragon boat racing coach and are held for one hour every Tuesday and Thursday behind BJ’s Sport Shop in Minocqua.
