Minocqua Taxi Firm Makes Proposal To Transit Commission

WXPR

The owner of a Lakeland area taxi service has made an offer to be emergency backup in case the Oneida-Vilas County Transit Commission buses are not available.

Matt Daily of DisCab Minocqua Taxi last month expressed concern to the Commission that the growing bus service started by the two county boards would adversely affect his customer base. The bus service is known as Northwoods Transit Connections. Daily said last month his business is growing, but said he was competing against a tax-funded service. He said last month the Lac du Flambeau bus service has cut into his business.

He did offer to be an emergency backup should the bus, in a rare occurrence would not be able to pick up a passenger in a timely manner. Commission Chair Erv Teichmiller read a portion of DisCab's offer....

"...should that occur, and you're talking about it occurring weekdays between eight and four o'clock and you're identifying that backup at a rate of $20 per one-way trip, within a radius of five miles around the junction of Highways 47 and 51..."

Daily says his business has been good this summer, but he said he anticipates it dropping a bit as fall arrives. The Commission took no action, waiting to review the proposal.
