Next Read: The Tender Bar

Join me in reading The Tender Bar by J. R. Moehringer , our next book for WXPR’s New Perspectives Up North book club.

This heartwarming yet spellbinding book is a story about relationships. The ones we’re born into, the ones we’ve lost, the ones we’re seeking. We can’t explain them all. Some come in place of others, some help form who we are as adults, some their missing parts have us longing for something or someone else.

With honesty and humour, The Tender Bar takes a look at the heart of a lonely boy seeking a father figure in the unlikely of places, the corner bar.

With colourful characters you will get to know intimately, you will grow to love them, and their vulnerabilities in an exquisitely written memoir.

When it’s time for J.R. to leave home, he finds the bar a sanctuary, a place to return and regroup. The bar offers shelter from failure, rejection, heartbreak and even reality.

This time we’re going to try something a bit different, and have an on-line discussion, with posted questions at www.goodreads.com. Please join us by joining the web site and looking for New Perspectives Up North book club and join in the discussion!

Our next in person meet will be May 6th at 5:00 p.m.
